Louise Porter, B.Sc., M.Sc. PhD.
Research Interests
Louise’s principal research interests focus on the social
psychology of crime, specifically in relation to the interpersonal
dynamics between co-offenders. Her research has focused primarily
on the crimes of group rape and group robbery and has drawn
upon social psychological principles of leadership and influence
to describe and explain individual involvement in these crimes.
Louise has produced a behaviourally based, interpersonal model
of leadership and influence that incorporates influence styles
with the reactions of the recipients of those styles.
Louise’s studies have revealed that
group offenders are typically young males who are led through
the active participation
of one individual who then breeds behavioural contagion in
the remaining group members.
