Dr Craig Bennell
University of Carleton, Canada
Dr Bennell is currently conducting research
that explores the various ways in which psychologists can
contribute to police activities. This research incorporates
three related areas:
1. Police training - evaluating existing
training programs and developing new training programs (particularly
in those areas where it is difficult to get satisfactory
on the job training)
2. Police selection - identifying characteristics
of effective police officers (across ranks and roles) and
devising methods for selecting the most appropriate candidates
to fill these positions
3. Police procedures - examining the validity
of psychologically based investigative techniques (such as
offender profiling)
