Police Service, New Scotland Yard
Bill Griffiths joined the Metropolitan Police
Service (MPS) in
1967 and has served mainly as a detective in both specialist
and generalist investigation roles in the same force.

As
Director of Operations and Tasking, he is responsible for
all
serious and specialist crime investigations and operations in
London, apart from terrorist incidents, ranging from
homicide, armed robbery, kidnap and fraud through to
protection of children. His command domain is run through
ten operational command units and comprises about 2,800
operational detectives.

He leads the Association of Chief Police
Officers (ACPO) work on professionalising
investigation within the Government police reform agenda and
also directs national training
on the strategic management of critical incidents. Other ACPO
responsibilities include and
Crimestoppers, a project that he initiated for London in 1988.
