Commander Cressida Dick, M.A., M.Phil, Specialist Crimes Directorate
(with responsibility for Organised and Cross Border Crimes), Metropolitan Police Service

Cressida joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 1983 as a probationary constable at Soho. She worked subsequently in South West and South East London, spending four years as a patrol Inspector in Peckham. As a Chief Inspector she was seconded on to the Accelerated Promotion Course at Bramshill as a trainer.

Cressida transferred to Thames Valley Police, taking up the post of Superintendent Operations at Oxford and, subsequently spent three years there as the Area Commander in charge of policing the City of Oxford.

After attending the Strategic Command Course, Cressida took a career break during which she studied full time for an M.Phil. in Criminology at Cambridge.

Cressida returned to the Metropolitan Police in July 2001 as a Commander. In May 2002 Cressida became Head of the Diversity Directorate at New Scotland Yard. This gave her pan - London strategic responsibility for the implementation of recommendations from the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry Report and developing the Met’s wider diversity policies. On 18th August 2003 she moved to the Met’s Specialist Crimes Directorate, responsible for Organised and Cross Border Crimes – this includes responsibility for Operation Trident (gun crime which affects the black communities).
